When the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) receives a complaint that a child is being abused or neglected, they often file a Petition with the juvenile court. The purpose is to determine if a parent has in fact abused or neglected their child. If the Court makes this determination, the Court may order that a parent participate in treatment or counseling. This can even result in removal of the child from the parent’s home.
When DCFS intervenes in a home it can be very frightening and disruptive. Knowing what your rights are and having an attorney can ease much of this stress. Our office has significant experience in defending parents in such actions.
